Give Me Some Water

The World Resources Institute recently published a report that exposes the effect the lack of water availability may have on shale and tight oil development. They found that almost 40% of shale resources are in areas that are either arid or under high to extremely high levels of water stress; including China, Algeria, Mexico, South Africa, Libya, Pakistan, Egypt, and India.

The availability of water may be the largest limiting factor in future shale development. The immediacy of addressing this problem cannot be understated. And no one is excluded from responsibility; it falls on regulators, industry, and communities to take steps starting today. What steps are your company or community taking to circumvent the inevitable?
